Using Relative Links in Digication

For those who are trying to export their ePortfolios, relative links are especially useful. Relative links in ePortfolios are different from standard links in two ways: 

• Relative links can only be used to link to pages within a Digication portfolio, and…
• Relative links will work without an internet connection after a portfolio is downloaded from the web, unlike conventional links.

To use a relative link within your ePortfolio, you’ll start by creating a link in a rich text module as you normally would, only instead of inputting a link with standard http address you’ll instead input the following into the open field:

./page_wanted.html

Replace the “page_wanted” text with the name of the page within the portfolio that you’d like to link to. You’ll find the name of the page in your address bar between two sets of slashes (“/“) and the end of the URL.

For example, if I’m linking to a page who’s URL is:

school.digication.com/john_smiths_ePortfolio/reflection

Then my relative link to that page will be:

./reflection.html

After a relative link is added, save and publish your module for the changes to take affect. Now, whenever you download an ePortfolio and view it offline, your relative link to content within the portfolio will work right out of the box.
