- administrators or faculty managing a course, community or assessment group.
Categories
Select one or multiple categories for a discussion. Any categories selected will display in the left menu inside the discussion tab to allow viewers of the course to filter the list of discussion to display by category. It is helpful to categorize discussions if you create many discussions in a course.
A list of categories is available including, Announcement, Assignment, Discussion, Handout, Resource, and Syllabus. If you need to create your own category, such as Readings, simply type in the text in the field provided and click the Add button. Then select the category from the list.
Who Can See This?
This setting controls who in a course can see this discussion. Faculty TAs, and Administrators that are added to a course can always see any discussions created.
By default, All Students that have access to the class can also see any discussion created.
If you do not want All Students to see the discussion, uncheck the box with this label. If you have created or added groups to your course you can select specific groups to be able to see this discussion. Simply check the desired groups.
Who Can Reply to This?
This setting controls who in a course can see this discussion. Faculty TAs, and Administrators that are added to a course can always see any discussions created.
By default, All Students that have access to the class can also reply to any discussion created.
If you do not want students to reply to this discussion, uncheck the box.
If students can reply to this discussion and you want to limit replies to a specific time, specify the start and end date and time in the provided fields.
By default, students can see others' replies. If you prefer only Admins, TAs, and Faculty view student replies, uncheck this box.
Is the Discussion Gradable?
If the discussion is gradable, check the box next to: Yes, this is gradable, add to gradebook.
To allows student to view their grades check the box next to: I want students to view their own grades.
If a discussion is gradable, fill in the maximum points and relative weight of the discussion.
